What has to happen to make you feel more confident to start spending money again?
Question by mr_cj_jr: What has to happen to make you feel more confident to start spending money again?
I realize that this is the ‘Elections’ section but I wanted to put it out there.
Consumer spending, as we all know, helps to drive the economy.
So, in your opinion, what has to happen in order for you to feel more confident in spending money (outside of essentials) again?
Thoughts?

If I had more money to spend, I would have no problem spending it.
The expectation of future earnings.
Let’s see……..for me, i would spend more if we weren’t in a recession and consumer prices were more affordable. Some items are just way over priced.
I would be encouraged if I got a 401k quarterly report that actually showed a gain. My last one was down about 8%.
You spend at your own risk. The big GREED government and banking machines have not finished to rein of terror among the masses.
Nothing DID I miss something?
I have been reading FDR and am assured spending is bad.
Globalization is BAD
I was just awarded over a million dollars for a motorcycle accident where I nearly died…I am spending like a mofo
i agree with the answers we need more money
Why spend?
Consumption of useless garbage is what helped us all dig us into our debts..
I think I would start consuming again, after the FED is abolished, after our national debt is wiped clean, and after our government no longer taxes labor as ‘income’ (its an even exchange, my life, for a little money, im not gaining anything)
Nothing has happened that would encourage me. The pay rate has not kept up with the rate of inflation, therefore our once “disposable income” is being used to make ends meet.
I haven’t stopped. I doubt if many of us have. Are there people here who did not buy a single Christmas gift? Most of us did. How many of us have two or more cars in our family? Have more clothes than we really need? Are eating more than beans, rice, and hamburger?
Spending is still going on. But we also need to do something about the quality of products we produce. The gov’t can’t instill work ethics in people.
Job security! Right now I’m layed off from the window factory I work at, and am not sure whether I will get called back! My husbands still has his job as a machinist, but even that’s iffy! So, we’re not spending! When Clinton sighned NAFTA into effect, he screwed alot of us!
Hussein Obama to resign. Other than that, you wanted change you got it.
Enjoy
A Democrat Congressional minority.
Knowing that my money was well spent. I’m sick of seeing all of the cheap products out there that are over priced. Its hard to find nice products now without spending an arm and leg.
When the criminals that are responsible for bankrupting Fanny Mae, Freddy Mack, AIG, etc, etc, etc are prosecuted put in prison and have their assets seized.
Up until a week ago, I felt pretty comfortable. I would like to change the company I work for, not because of anything economical… just want a change.
I can’t see doing that in the near future, because what’s going to happen is there will be a false sense of security in the coming months that like we saw during the 90′s can blow up at anytime, right in our face. As an over the road truck driver, I see all 48 states… Consumer spending isn’t being hampered all that much… I see big tvs being wheeled out of big box stores everywhere… Now if these people are using credit poorly I don’t know… Only they would know if they are putting themselves in a hole again.
If McCain had won, I’d feel a lot better about things, but for now, seeing the way things are going, I’m going to hold back on any big purchases… like I did in the late 90′s… knowing things were going to really get bad.
I need to win the lottery.
I’m already spending. I never stopped, everyone’s paranoia has driven prices way down. I’m enjoying it quite a bit.
Nothing now, since I have no money and Obama in making sure I never will have.
My investments would have to come back up to the levels they were before this fiasco began, my company would have to stop laying off people, and there would have to be something worth buying.
For now, I only buy essentials and put the rest of the money in a shoe box where I know it will at least not lose too much value.
those who have are spending. paying bills. as far as blowing money and just spreading it around, i have not,and will not do that. thats what got many people in trouble. credit cards. spend now, dont worry about paying it back.
The government stop spending money without any backing. Anyone who has been to business school knows that eventually macroeconomics tells us that such a policy leads inevitably to a devaluation of the currency. That won’t go too well with those who haven’t shipped their funds overseas and denominated them in another currency.
