What do you think of this new Bush tax cuts extension “compromise” between Obama and Republicans?

Question by _______: What do you think of this new Bush tax cuts extension “compromise” between Obama and Republicans?
Obama b*tched and moaned about how the U.S. could not afford to continue the current tax rates for the wealthiest Americans…….and then completely caved.

Republicans b*tched and moaned about how the U.S. could not afford to extend unemployment benefits without paying for them…………and then extended them for 13 more months without paying for them.

So basically, we kept tax rates low (which means less revenue) and we increased spending without making any cuts.

Is that a “compromise” or just more of the VERY SAME bullsh*t from the VERY SAME two useless parties that have consistently proven they suck at running the country?

WASHINGTON – Brushing past Democratic opposition, President Barack Obama announced agreement with Republicans Monday night on a plan to extend expiring income tax cuts for all Americans, renew jobless benefits for the long-term unemployed and grant a one-year reduction in Social Security taxes.

The emerging agreement also includes tax breaks for businesses that the president said would contribute to the economy’s recovery from the worst recession in eight decades.

Obama’s announcement marked a dramatic reversal of his long-held insistence, originally laid out in his 2008 campaign, that tax cuts should only be extended at incomes up to $ 200,000 for individuals and $ 250,000 for couples. He explained his about-face by saying that he still opposed the move and noted the agreement called for a temporary, two-year extension of cuts at all income levels, not the permanent renewal that Republicans have long sought.
scott b………”because each side got something they wanted, and gave something they didn’t want.”

No. It would seem the Republicans got what they wanted and then sold out on their deficit cutting rhetoric (JUST LIKE DURING THE BUSH YEARS). Democrats just look weak and pathetic. I don’t think there was ever any danger of unemployment benefits not getting extended. Republicans don’t actually care about reducing the deficit. Bush years??
iwasnot…………”for once, both parties give and little and gave a little. ”

The government just spent more money without paying for it (by raising taxes or cutting spending elsewhere). ANYBODY can do this. This is a joke. This was not difficult. This was not a compromise.

Do you just not understand what the term “compromise” means? It sounds like it. It’s a compromise because each side got something they wanted, and gave something they didn’t want.

I think is is a reasonable position for him, under the circumstances. I’m interested to see how much ground the conservatives are actually willing to give up.

    yeah… what’s up with that?

I would have to guess that the republicans love money more than they hate unemployment. doesn’t solve anything. I’m hoping people eventually get it, or maybe at least try harder.

If taxing created anything Africa and central America would be financial world leaders

Obama is in what could be properly termed, between a rock and a hard spot. Pelosi rallying the “ole guard” ( dinosaurs ) to as she said, “Keep Obama from compromising ALL our gains the past 2 years……” ( like they were really SO great ) and soothing the Conservatives.
The unemployment extension should not have been granted, now going from 99 to 115 weeks, up from the original 26 weeks.

Well, I’ll tell you what: this is what the majority of Americans want – for once, both parties give and little and gave a little. Sure, it’s not what everyone wanted but they worked together and got something done.

I know I’ll get thumbs down from both sides – from conservatives who want to see the president weakened no matter what and from liberals who don’t want to compromise on any issue.

But I speak for the majority – let’s return to a time when government works and Americans work together.

It’s not what I wanted exactly but I’m happy there is compromise…this is how the government works

What the Republicans propose will ADD 5.6 trillion to the deficit in two years.

    Yes, we have a problem.

Something had to give and it did. Some people need unemployment so they don’t have to sleep under the bridge and the rich want to stay rich. I rather this that some people not having anything to eat or a place to live and the rich get taxed more.

Some people were left without anything! They are called 99ers! They are the ones who were caught up in this downturn and still no job to be found because there arn’t any or because of age discrimination! Obama don’t want to fight for nothing but his OWN job! I hope he looses it in 2012!
