What bachelor degree offers holder best chances for employment, and preparation for going into own business?
Question by Pol: What bachelor degree offers holder best chances for employment, and preparation for going into own business?
We are trying to identify the best bachelor degree for our son to pursue in college starting 2011. Such degree should make him acceptable to most number of jobs available after graduation, and to prepare him possibly for self-employment or for going into own business in the future, and not remain an employee forever. Please advise. Thanks.

You don’t need a degree to know to operate your own business some day. But if in terms of employment, it really depends where you are at and what type of economy is working in the region where you live or intend to go. A business degree is always good. But even if you want to do something in the sciences like medicine, you can still operate your own clinic some day as a doctor and you won’t be like an employee. The scope is so wide.
Good luck and hope you make the right choice.

Petroleum Engineering has the best pay and job prospects of all bachelor’s degrees.
However, college, especially business education tends to remove the entrepreneurial spirit from a lot of people. The point is that a college education does little to help someone start a business. And a business education tends to make it harder as a business degree is basically about how to run a fairly large company that already exists.
