What are the ramifications to backing out of a job offer you have accepted?
Question by Male-Man: What are the ramifications to backing out of a job offer you have accepted?
Is it common for people to do this if they have a competing offer after already accepting a job? Can you be sued for this?
Thanks

Did you sign some sort of contract saying you would stay with the company for x amount of time or face penalties of some kind? If not, no.

If there is no signing bonus/moving expenses paid than they really can’t do anything to you because there are no damages. However, there can be some repercussions if the company that you are leaving has enough influence within the industry. You may find it difficult to get a new job later on.
Possible consequences:
1. A bad reputation
2. The other employer withdrawing its offer because you’re indecisive
3. Taking a better job and being happy.
