Weekly Initial Jobless Claims Climb To 424000
Seasonally adjusted initial jobless claims climbed 10000 last week to 424000, the Department of Labor Reported today. That’s down from the previous week’s revised figure of 414000, initially reported at 409000. Surveyed economists had been expecting a slight decline to a seasonally adjusted 405000 initial claims for the week. The less volatile 4-week moving average actually fell slightly to 438500, down from 464750 a year ago. The total number of people receiving some form of state or federal jobless benefit, which is reported with a 2-week lag, fell 196976 to 7.74 million, down from 9.98 million a year ago. That is the lowest number of people reportedly receiving jobless benefits in two and half years.
