Unemployment Checks for the week prior to going to work?
My sister asked me this question so I thought I would ask you guys since I have no answer for her.
Her husband has been drawing a unemployment check, well he found a job and began work on September 30. Monday October 5, 2009 she received his unemployment check. The check says it is for week ending September 26, 2009. (which he was not working) the check date is October 4, 2009.
Should she cash it?

Yes. But any checks after 9/30/09 you must return.
Yes same as the other answer. Any checks sent for the period from 9/30 she can’t cash.
when in doubt call the unemployment office
I’d recommend you to go ahead and call your local unemployment office, and get a clear answer.
It’s for a week ending before he started working. Why would you think you wouldn’t be eligible for benefits? Did he ever provide untruthful answers? If not then cash it. The check date is just when they processed the payment.
