paying for estimates… say what?
This entire case is pretty silly. I don’t know how it is in USA, but as far as I know. It’s customary in Belgium for the estimates to be free. Unless actual planing is needed. But even still they will come for free estimate (you might have to pay something towards their travel if they live too far) and then if planning is still needed they will give rough estimate and then on different day come with some tools already and start the planning and the initial work

@laiosto agreed – im a licensed electrician and my estimates have always been free. the only ones i charge for is when i do inspections of the system. i open every outlet to examine the wiring, look in crawl spaces, attics, the panel, the meter, and my price for that is very limited, again IF the customer wants me to do that, THEN i tell them the estimated cost to upgrade the system or whatever they want. this clown is just out for a buck

I think I can tell you EXACTLY what happened here: This guy (P) is used to dealing with these swanky Manhattan penthouse types where its “I’ll have my people get in touch with your people,” and now he is used to getting big money for stuff like estimates and just driving out to look at a place because he is used to the accountant or whoever does the books for the rich people they just get a bill and pay it and seldom look twice at these kinds of bills figuring that the dude (continued)

Holy moly…time to travel! Why is it that construction people and contractors ALWAYS think they should get paid to travel when no one else does. Teachers, paid to travel…ummm nope, bank tellers, paid to travel…ummm nope. Oh and btw, we all get that “survey” is the fancy word for ESTIMATE.
