Question by marvinfm: How does a temp to hire job affect your unemployment benefits if you end up not staying at the position?
I am currently receiving unemployment benefits in California. If I do not end up staying at the position, will I still receive the same benefit amount as before I started the job or will the rate be adjusted according to the temp job rate which is in this case lower. Obviously I am aware that I would not get paid for the time I was working the temp job.

I live in California and I used to collect unemployment. Tell them how much money you make an hour and tell the unemployment office that it is just a contract position. Most of the time the temp-to-hire it is rarely you will be hired permanently because the temp agency that you work for, charges outrageous rates for the company that you are currently working for.

It’s a relatively quiet week. There’s isn’t anything that’s having too much of an impact on rates, so my recommendation is “Float” for this week until next. We may see a slight dip next week and more of an opportunity to lock. There are two reports coming out tomorrow; Jobless claims and Existing home sales, however I don’t foresee the numbers coming out better than the forecast. The news on the horizon is Europe and this time it’s Spain. I think we’ll hear more about them this year and something to keep an eye on since it will have an impact on our market and rates. Topic of the week: Are deferred student loans counted against your income? There’s a difference in when they’re counted and if they’re counted especially if it’s an FHA or Conventional loan.
