An individual wage earner has the potential to receive unemployment compensation. Is it possible for the owner of a small business to be eligible? How does one go about doing this? Thanks!

I think the smart move would be to pay yourself a salary, do all the W2′s, etc. That way, the unemployment board has proof of earnings.

And you can say that you lost your jobs due to economic reasons (if that is true in your case).

This is my best guess, but I’d speak with someone in your local unemployment office to be sure. The laws and requirements for eligibility are so tricky.

Question by ghost: Why would the police treat a minimum wage food service worker like an armed thug?

Excuse me fan, but if you spray a minor in the face with mace and wrestle her in hand cuffs at her job, that seems like treating her like a thug.

Question by Bob: Why is minimum wage a good idea?
I don’t think it is. It messes with the value of labor, goods, and services.

The minimum wage is calculated to be at the value where if you work, you can at least make ends meet.

It does however have a detrimental affect on the value of produced goods in that their manufacturing costs are always higher but then again you always have the option of using 3rd world countries and exploit those who work for virtually nothing in order to give you low manufacturing costs.

If businesses must abide by minimum wage rules, should organized labor abide by maximum wage rules?

Question by Perplexed Bob: If businesses must abide by minimum wage rules, should organized labor abide by maximum wage rules?
I have watched a number of factories in Ohio close and ship jobs south of the border. The common demominator to each of these closing was high labor cost due to organized labor contracts.
One company in particular employed 350 metal grinders. Including all benefits, the labor cost for this company has reached $ 58 per hour. At contract renewal time, the union asked for more.
Today that factory is in Mexico.
Because of union demands, 350 plus people lost their jobs, a community lost the influx of payroll, other businesses suffered from the lost of revenue in the town, unemployment services and other social services become burdened.
If we demand minimum wages from business, why are we not demanding maximum wage limits from organized labor?
