At a time when unemployment is high, personal income is flat, and college-level education is a requirement for most well-paying jobs, public colleges continue to become less affordable for Texas residents.

A slow economy has caused a sharp drop in college and university state spending. According to The National Center for Public Policy and Higher Education, public four-year college tuition in Texas has increased 20%. The result, a higher cost for higher education

“However, there is money available for the diligent,” assures Monica Wheeler author of the new e-resource guide 35 Practical Ways to Get Money for College, “Total state financial aid has been raised from $ 257.7 million to $ 310.5 million to compensate for the higher cost. State grants and scholarships offered through the private sector are available to help pay increasing tuition cost.”

Awards, need and merit based, are usually categorized by geographic location, special interest, or major career fields. “Since criteria are specific, finding the right award can be tedious- but considering the current economic recession, well worth the effort,” explains Wheeler. She advises exploring the following options for a productive grant and scholarship search:

1. Guidance Counselor – High School Guidance Counselors are on the front lines with access to information on numerous awards. Start, but don’t end your search at their office door.

2. Online Search-The Internet has emerged as a key source of scholarship information. The following are a handful of helpful sites.

http://www.wiredscholar.com Wired Scholar has one of the internet’s largest databases of financial aid.

http://www.fastweb.com FastWeb allows you to search 600,000 scholarships worth over $ 1 billion dollars.

http://www.brokescholar.com The BrokeScholar database matches student profiles with more than 900,000 scholarships worth over $ 3 billion to find the most relevant and obtainable opportunities. They also feature a personalized deadline calendar.

http://www.collegeboard.com The College Board is a trusted source that offers a search with 2,000 scholarships, internships, and loan programs

3. Public and School Libraries-While you want to use the Internet for searches; there is a lot of competition. Got to local libraries and check with the reference desk for institutional, and private student aid scholarship directories. Most of the awards listed are duplicated online, but not all. By investing time to thumb through the telephone-directory-sized books you may find one or two the competition will miss.

4. Local Organizations -There is a better chance of winning money from local organizations such as churches, clubs, community groups, and unions since fewer students are likely to apply. Look specifically for local chapters of larger, national organizations that often give money to students living in certain areas.

5. Place of Employment-Employers may also offer grants and scholarships. Inquire at your personnel office. Dependent students should ask their parent or legal guardian to check the availability of awards.

6. Announcements -Keep your eyes open. Take time to read bulletin boards, posters, and articles in newspapers for competition announcements. Some scholarships are episodic and may occur only once.

Birmingham Private Detectives Gives Information about Fraud Investigation Services in Light of The Telegraph Report: Spanish Man Chops Off His Hand to Claim

(PRWEB UK) 28 April 2013

According to the Telegraph report by Harriet Alexander an unnamed Spanish man told 11 different insurance companies that he had lost his hand in a car crash. Investigators became suspicious when they discovered the mans hand was too cleanly severed and the bone had not been affected to be a result of a car accident. Jose Luis Nieto, president of Spanish accident investigators Gesterec said:

There were various things that did not add up He also described this claim as one of the most memorable

Last year in a 12 month period in which almost 150,000 investigations were carried out into suspicious claims, a rise of 11.9 %.

In another case last year a Spanish man cut off his arm above the elbow and claimed 600,000 Euros saying it was an electric saw accident.

The report goes on to suggest that the sharp rise in fraudulent claims comes as Spain announced the worst unemployment figures since records began in the 1970s. Desperate home owners, unable to pay their mortgages, have been committing suicide at such a rate that the government has been forced to suspend the eviction of tenants in arrears.

Private investigator in Birmingham, Birmingham Private Detectives is often approached by businesses and individuals to investigate suspected cases of fraud. Over the years these cases have included insurance fraud, benefits fraud and bogus sickness or injury fraud and investigators have had much success for their clients. Investigations may include surveillance of the suspected target, forensic investigation and a though investigation into the facts of the case and the evidence available. The last method is very much like the case in the report of the Spanish man who cut off his own hand.

Investigator and spokesperson from Birmingham Private Detectives, Kristy George said:

Investigators at Birmingham Private Detectives have investigated many different cases of fraud for clients and it is always surprising what desperate or greedy people will do to themselves in order to cheat the system for monitory gain.

Birmingham Private Detectives along with their private investigator in Bristol sister company, Bristol Private Detectives is a team of highly trained professional and discreet private investigators and detectives with over 35 years experience in the industry. Their understanding and approachable team of male and female detectives are available 24/7 to conduct matrimonial, corporate and private investigations

How will infinite quantitative easing by the private Federal Reserve solve all our problems and who profits?

Question by cargo pilot III Flyin’ Mayan: How will infinite quantitative easing by the private Federal Reserve solve all our problems and who profits?
Private Federal Reserve Bank Chairman Ben Bernanke announced infinite quantitative easing last Wednesday, which is my understanding that the private Federal Reserve will create between $ 40 and $ 85 billion in new fiat currency each month, much of which will be used to buy our debt and the rest to go to the banks that are too big to fail, to use at their discretion. All the newly created money will simply be put on our tab.

What affect will infinite quantitative easing have on American citizens and does anyone care?

Smart Horizons Career Online Education’s Bridge to Start High School Program Expands to 9 New Private, Post-secondary Institutions in 32 Campuses Across the United States

Pensacola, FL (PRWEB) January 04, 2013

Could it be time to go back to high school in a hybrid learning environment on a career college campus?

The reality is that approximately 45 million adults in the United States are unable to pursue their dreams because they lack a basic high school diploma. Statistics show that high school dropouts earn less money, and are more likely to be unemployed, incarcerated, and live in poverty than those with higher levels of educational attainment.*

Soaring enrollment numbers in the Bridge to Start High School program (http://www.ed2golive.com/cohs) suggest that for many Americans, it is indeed time to head back to school. But for these students, “high school” looks nothing like what it did the first time aroundthis is high school in a hybrid learning environment on a career college campus that caters to adult learners. The program, created via a partnership between ed2go (http://www.ed2go.com) and Smart Horizons Career Online Education (http://www.shcoe.org), is a unique solution that addresses ATB (Ability to Benefit) issues, while helping adults get re-engaged back into the educational system in order to ultimately earn a post-secondary degree.

The Bridge to Start High School program enables students who did not graduate from high school to earn an accredited high school diploma and a credentialed career certificate. Bridge to Start high school students are enrolled in Career Online High School, a division within the AdvancED/SACS-accredited Smart Horizons Career Online Education private online school district.

Since its launch in early July, the Bridge to Start program’s enrollment rate has increased dramatically, and the program has recently expanded to 9 additional private, post-secondary institutions in 32 campuses across the United States. With increasing numbers of post-secondary institutions expressing an interest in Bridge to Start, the official goal of reaching 100 campuses by the end of March seems well within reach.

“There’s growing buzz about the Bridge to Start program,” said Ron Stefanski, Chief Business Development Officer for e2go/Cengage Learning. “This program’s value proposition makes sense to our post-secondary partners’Let’s all do well, by doing good.’ We’re strategically growing enrollments via a unique program that enables adults to create new opportunities for themselves. Bridge to Start is the perfect solution for these individuals as well as our partner schools.”

Dr. Howard Liebman, Smart Horizon Career Online Education’s Cofounder and Superintendent of Schools, also sees Bridge to Start as a win-win for both students and schools. “This program has proven to be beneficial for both students and post-secondary institutions,” Dr. Liebman said. “It enables students to earn a diploma and career certificate to further their education and employment goals, and it’s a big plus for colleges because the majority of the Bridge to Start students go on to enroll in the colleges where they completed their coursework. To date, approximately 75 percent of our high school graduates have matriculated into a post-secondary institution. These are impressive data points that we are very proud of as an educational organization.”

Private Student Loan Companies in the US Industry Market Research Report Now Available from IBISWorld

Los Angeles, CA (PRWEB) June 06, 2012

The $ 11.0-billion Private Student Loan Companies industry has been increasingly in the public eye due to mounting student debt and charges of poor lending practices. According to IBISWorld industry analyst Sophia Snyder, heightened media attention has caused the regulatory environment to tighten and restricted revenue growth. However, rising tuition and low disposable income are expected to contribute to revenue growth of 1.0% during the five years to 2012; this includes growth of 0.8% in 2012. Student debt has been increasing due to several factors, including rising tuition and unemployment. Slowing growth in government funding of universities has been a key driver of increasing tuition rates at public universities during the past five years. Tuition increased while disposable income fell during the economic recession. Meanwhile, limits to the amounts that students can borrow from the federal government have not increased enough to offset the difference between tuition hikes and low disposable income and savings. Consequently, demand for private student loans has been strong. Industry revenue was growing quickly but started to decline in 2010 after the expiration of the Federal Family Education Loan (FFEL) program, says Snyder. When this program stopped, private student loan companies were no longer able to get subsidies from the federal government, among other effects. The sunset of the FFEL program motivated several national companies to exit the industry; meanwhile, community banks entered the industry in large numbers, seeing an opportunity to compete. The net result is expected to be an annualized growth rate of 25.7% in the number of industry operators during the five years to 2012, bringing the number to 257.

The largest players in the Private Student Loan Companies industry include Sallie Mae and Wells Fargo and Company. The low level of concentration is largely due to recent acquisitions undertaken by key players. For example, Discover Financial Services acquired a large share of CitiBank’s student loan portfolio and the Student Loan Corporation. Many of the industry’s medium-size players have been hurt by the financial crisis, and have therefore folded or been acquired by other large industry players. However, this acquisition activity has not overshadowed the drastic increase in demand for educational lending, leading to a large increase in the number of industry enterprises. This trend is not forecast to continue, though, as state and federal governments become increasingly more competitive in the educational lending space.

In contrast, the number of industry operators is forecast to decrease during the five years to 2017. The progressively strict regulatory environment is projected to be the main driver for companies leaving the industry or consolidating. Changes in regulation are also forecast to pressure profit margins downward after expanding during the five years to 2012. The industry will benefit from progressively higher tuition as growth in government funding for universities slows. If federal limits on government loan amounts are not increased, industry demand will benefit from the widening gap between tuition costs and federal loans. Private Security Industry Poised For Highest Growth Rate in Nine Years

Omaha, NE (PRWEB) March 14, 2012

The private security industry is one sector of the economy that is projected to benefit from both perception and reality, even though the two are at odds with one another.

The overall mood in the United States is still sour due to the perceived state of the economy, at least according to 55 percent of responders to a recent Pew Research Center study. However, another source shows that businesses are actually beginning to rebound from the 2007-2009 recession. So, how are industries that serve both publics to know what is real and what is simply in the mind of the beholder?

The answer is that both scenarios are true at least for the private security industry. Private security is projected to grow more than 6 percent in 2012 the largest increase in nine years, according to a 2010 IBISWorld Industry Report on Security Services in the U.S. The same report shows that businesses are reevaluating where their recovered dollars should be spent and investing in better security.

According to the IBIS research, between the years 2010 and 2015, companies will increase their security budgets as business sentiment improves and more funds become available. Many businesses will increase the number of contracted security staff, as well as the number of hours that guards are on duty. The rise in demand is projected to cause industry revenue to increase by 4.9 percent per year to $ 32.85 billion at the end of 2015.

On the contrary, the Pew study shows that Americans consider the economy in an even worse position than in 2008, when the nation was in the middle of the recession. At that time, only 34 percent of Americans saw the countrys economic future as bleak. Today, that number is up to 55 percent.

This negative perception also drives the security business, causing Americans to take extra precautions against crimes of opportunity those that are committed when people grow desperate as a result of their jobless, financial situation.

Reed Nyffeler, CEO of Signal 88 Security, Inc., supports that thought process. When our economic outlook is bleak, individuals tend to think that their personal safety is in jeopardy, said Nyffeler. We often see individuals taking extra security precautions for themselves, their families and their personal property during a bleak economic cycle.

As unemployment rates remain high and homes continue to go into foreclosure, concerns for public safety heighten and so does the need for private security.

Another factor driving the security industrys projected growth is the reduction of government jobs. According to the February jobs report from the Bureau of Labor Statistics, one-fifth of the industries with the largest projected wage and salary employment declines are government agencies or municipalities. Existing public safety personnel, including local law enforcement, will go on the chopping block leading to outsourcing.

In late February 2012, a government-owned and operated electricity company in Tennessee laid off61 percent of its uniformed police officers and replaced them with enhanced security technology and more contract security guards at its critical non-nuclear energy sites.

This is just one example of public budgets feeling the squeeze and opening the door for private security, which generally provides more affordable protection than traditional law enforcement with the added benefit of keeping the reduced number of traditional law enforcement officers on the streets, patrolling areas that are more impacted by serious crime.

Were excited about the projected growth in the private security industry, said Nyffeler. Making businesses and communities feel more at ease through our presence and patrols is at the core of what we do every day.

goverment workers v. private sector?

Question by Mardoy: goverment workers v. private sector?
Does it bother you that government workers make 40% more than comparable jobs in the private sector, also they have exceelent health care and pension coverage. They do not get cutbacks, on the contrary they automatically get cost of living increases. All the jobs that are being created is in government. Between politicians and actors (interchangeable) they are running the country to their advantage. What do you think?
Looking for sensible and legitimate answers
And the public school teachers are complaining constantly.
N: This was on comparable jobs, I am sure there are instances where the exception proves the rule
N: Meant to add that I do appreciate your respectful answer

Does not surprise me.
Is that why public school teachers make more than private school teachers yet the quality of private school education is better?
