Daily Forex News Recap (12/30): Trio of Good US Data to End 2010, But USD Pressured

www.fxtimes.com Summary We end the year with upbeat economic reports from the US on manufacturing, home sales and unemployment claims. While that helped the USD stem a sell-off vs the Yen, the USD remained pressured to end 2010, hitting record lows against the Swiss Franc and Australian Dollars. Let’s first start by taking a look at the data from today. Jobless Claims at 2 and a Half Year Low Initial jobless claims fell by 34K, down to 388K for the week ended December 25th. That’s the lowest level in nearly two-and-a-half years, and gives us an indication that the labor market is improving. There has been a pretty steady downtrend in jobless claims in the 4th quarter, after they have been moving sideways through the rest of 2010. A level below 400K could be consistent with an increase of 100K-150K non-farm payrolls per month. Such a pace would need to be kept up in order to try and shift the unemployment rate down. The focus on the December Non-Farm Payroll report on January 7th increases now. Chicago Business Barometer Hits 22-Year High Following the weekly jobless claims, which came out at 8:30AM ET, was the Chicago Business Barometer (formerly known as the Chicago PMI) at 9:45AM. The reading for the business index was a blow-out, soaring in December to 68.6 from 62.5. That’s the highest reading in 22 years and bodes well for the upcoming ISM Manufacturing and Services PMI reports next week. It was a much stronger than expected reading. Forecasts had called for a small …

MissionIR News – Uranium Energy Updates Investor Community on Permitting Status of Goliad, Burke Hollow, and Channen Projects
Atlanta, GA (PRWEB) May 21, 2012
MissionIR would like to highlight Uranium Energy Corp., a publicly traded uranium production, development and exploration company operating North Americas newest emerging uranium mine. The companys fully licensed and permitted Hobson processing facility is central to all of its projects in South Texas, including the Palangana in-situ recovery project, which is ramping up initial production, and the Goliad in-situ recovery project which has been granted its Mine Permit and is in the initial stages of mine construction. The companys operations are managed by professionals with a recognized profile for excellence in their industry, a profile based on many decades of hands-on experience in the key facets of uranium exploration, development and mining.
In the companys news today,
Uranium Energy provided a progress report on its permits. The company reported recent correspondence whereby the regional EPA requested additional information from the Texas Commission on Environmental Quality (the TCEQ) regarding UECs aquifer exemption at its Goliad in-situ recovery (ISR) uranium project located in Goliad County in South Texas.
The company has received all of the required permits to begin construction at the Goliad ISR project. As previously announced, an aquifer exemption is required before uranium recovery activities can be initiated. Aquifer exemptions are issued jointly by the regional EPA and the State (TCEQ). TCEQ has earlier granted the Goliad project aquifer exemption, and has filed a request for EPAs concurrence. With the regional EPAs concurrence, UEC can initiate uranium recovery operations at the site.
In past reviews of aquifer exemptions, the EPA has made requests for additional information as part of its ordinary review process, and, as noted in its letter to the TCEQ, has issued more than 30 aquifer exemptions for in-situ uranium mining in Texas. The company will continue to work with the TCEQ and the EPA as the review process moves forward.
The company was also pleased to report receipt last week of the exploration permit for the new Burke Hollow project in Bee County. Exploration drilling, scheduled to commence this week, will extend and delineate mineralized zones discovered from historical drilling by a subsidiary of Total Minerals in 1993. The drilling program will also include a statistical grid covering the entire 17,510-acre property.
By about this time next month, UEC also anticipates receipt of the exploration permit for the companys newest project in South Texas, the Channen ISR project in Goliad County, with initial drilling to commence by the end of June. The drill program will initially consist of a statistical grid covering the entire 10,704-acre property.

Paulson’s Trillions, TSA Whistleblower, 103 Yr Old Almost Evicted & More: Nightly News
On the economic front, former Treasury Secretary and former Goldman Sachs executive Hank Paulson came under fire after it was revealed that he had private meetings in 2008 with hedge funds where he reportedly hinted at a rescue of Fannie and Freddie. Whatever the facts prove to be in this specific case, it is all too clear that the concept of conflict of interests has little foothold in the incestuous crony-capitalist relationship between Wall Street and Washington. Kelvin Thomson MP: Melbourne Urban Sprawl ABC News Report 17/10/09
Kelvin Thomson, Member for Wills, told the Victorian National Parks Association Grassland Community Day that the Urban Growth Boundary extension proposal represents a further breach into Melbournes promised Green Wedges. The extension of the growth zone means that the sacrificing of inner suburban quality of life has been in vain. We are cramping in the inner suburbs and we have urban sprawl as well. We will have more communities isolated from reliable transport services and highly car dependent, as well as clogged congested inner suburbs streets. Like a man rapidly gaining weight who simply loosens his belt rather than confront his weight problem, Melbourne needs to ask itself, is a population of 5 million really going to give us a better city than one of 4 million?
