Question by College Kid: If I am full time student working full-time and get laid off will I be able to collect unemployment?
If I am working during the summer full time and into the school year going to school full time as well and get laid off will I be able to collect unemployment?

Question by Drum Wiz: Can I refinance my home loan since I have been laid off?
I was laid off from my job a few months ago, and my current home loan is current with no late payments. Things are starting to get tight on our finances. Are there programs or companies that will provide refinancing when someone has been laid off?

Question by : If I get a job and get laid off in a month is it hard to get back on unemployment?
A few months ago I was laid off from a long term 3 year job.Recently after over 20 interviews I got a job. I have a feeling that the owners may not think I’m right for the job and could let me go in my first month. If this happens can I still get the unemployment I was approved for before or am i totally out of luck because I can only draw UI from this job?

Question by : know your getting laid off when can you apply for unemployment?
I got told today (Tuesday) I am getting laid off on Friday can I apply for unemployment right now since I know its happening? Or do I have to wait till Friday? I know its only a few days but I know it takes forever for them to get it done a few extra days can not hurt.

Question by : can you be laid off while your on medical leave of absence?
I work in a private hospital and been employed for 20 years and has been the nursing director of a nursing dept. I have been put on MLOA by my doctor due to some health issues. I received a phone call from my boss (our chief nursing director) that she is laying me off.
Is this a form of discrimation due to my disability and on being on a medical leave of absence? I am the only management person that is being laid off.

No, it is not discrimination. If your position becomes available again, the hospital has “somewhat” of an obligation to offer it to you, but it depends on the state and the situation. She can’t lay you off and then immediately fill your position with someone else.

Anyone can get laid off at any time. No one is immune from layoffs, regardless of any other factors.

Also, if after 12 weeks of FMLA you are still not able to come to work, they can terminate you and fill your position with someone else. They only have to hold your job for 12 weeks. You would then be put on long-term disability, if you purchased that insurance. The company has no obligation to you after 12 weeks, other than COBRA.
