Work for Ex-Felons & Ex-Prisoners?

Although those caught in the criminal justice system provide a plethora of jobs and profits for those who work in and own corrections facilities, once released ex-offenders face dismal economic realities. There are over 15 million working aged ex-prisoners and ex-felons living in our communities who face great hurdles securing employment. These are Americans. How does the federal government plan on increasing the economic opportunities for this segment of the US population, especially in relation to jobs and immigration?

When Will Our Representatives Support Housing Rights For Ex-Felons ?

I have talked with quite a few people that work for representatives and representatives that in the past have stated they support ex-felons being denied access to jobs and housing not to say all though. I can understand certain for a certian time period . But now I see that we are even being banned from living in our ghettos .Not all exfelons pose a threat to society .Ex-felons were not responsible for 911 . If you look in the ghettos of Florida and America you will see what we are having to do to survive and to keep our familes together .Stop placing more burdens on felons find others to oppress we did not have nothing before we went to prison and we still can not now.Allow us to live and work .Please allow men to be an inspiration to their kids instead of an outcast. Should ex-felons be a protected class for employment purposes?

Question by : Should ex-felons be a protected class for employment purposes?
Ex-felons can be recognized as a class of people via rule 23 FRCivP. The problem lies with what protections do ex-felons have regarding employment and whether the current standards of denying ex-felons employment under the guise of ‘business needs’ is unconstitutionally vague. I think that the definition of ‘developmentally disabled’ should apply to ex-felons because its obviously that they developed inadequately which is resurrected by society’s refusal to hire ex-felons and the lack of specific procedure to justify it. This is going to become reality as soon as the ticks and bugs are removed. FYI: those of you with the child-like responses (shouldn’t have done the crime, too bad, etc) should check out the daycare section of yahoo! because this isn’t for you.

I don’t personally believe the federal government should be telling businesses whom they must hire. Ever.

By “ex-felon”, we may assume you mean a person who is no longer convicted, i.e., has been pardoned or the conviction was overturned on appeal or the felony record expunged. Otherwise, he’s a “felon” for life.

If some state legislators (often more attuned to local needs) feel there should be some protection from employment discrimination based upon non-convicted status of a former felon, then that would be a good place to start.

For instance, some states allow an ex-felon to apply for a license to have a firearm, but not until they are pardoned.
