The biggest problem with the economy, from what I hear from all the economic experts, is a lack of consumer spending. How does deregulating investment markets and lower taxes for the less than 5% of the population who actually invest help with the lack of disposable income in the consumer base? Are we to expect businesses to run at a loss, hiring employees they don’t really need, until people can replenish their cash reserves and offer the demand that companies can profit from while employing larger numbers of people?
Edit for Jefferson: I disagree. People on welfare spend money on consumer goods, too. And how do you expect businesses to create those jobs without more demand for their business?

Nope. The reason is a lack of jobs. People do not spend when they do not have jobs, or are fearful of losing their jobs.
