What can I say to get employment offers after being discharged due to misconduct from my previous job?
Question by Sandy: What can I say to get employment offers after being discharged due to misconduct from my previous job?
I work in the banking industry. While in my previous job, I bent the rules while opening an account for a customer. Doing this opened the bank up to fraudulent activity. As a result I was discharged for “misconduct”. This action on my part was not “criminal”. I was only responding to intense pressure to meet monthly sales goals in a very difficult sales environment. Now I find myself looking for other employment, but the only interviews I’ve been getting are for banking positions that are very sales driven. Up to this point I’ve been using not meeting sales goals as my reason for being discharged. Of course this isnt going over too well during my interviews. What reason can I use for the discharge, other than lack of sales in order to go further in the interview process. If I tell the the truth regarding “bending the rules”, I feel this wouldn’t work either. But I know the sales excuse isn’t working. I dont think one mistake should make me unhireable. Help!!

Be honest and tell your prospective employer all about it. Then point out that, unlike someone new to the business you have learned a valuable lesson and will never be tempted to cut corners again. That makes you far less likely to make such an error in judgment than a new person.
Good luck!

Question by brian K: How long after i got laid off do i have to get COBRA?
I got laid off NOV 31. Is it too late for me to get COBRA? I am 29 M in good health. Where would be a good place for me to go get ins with decent benifits and dental? What should i expect to pay if i just go get my own coverage?

You have 60 days from the termination of coverage, to elect COBRA. You didn’t do that, so you can’t get COBRA. That would have been the best deal because as part of Obama’s stimulus plan, we are (the US Tax payer) is paying for a majority of COBRA payments if you were laid off between Sept 1 & Dec 31.
The cost of individual coverage will vary based on where you live and what kind of coverage you get. Also, because you had a lapse in coverage you will pay a higher rate. The higher deductible you have, the lower the payments. But at least you are covered in the event of a major illness or accident.

How to Get a Mortgage After Foreclosure
LeahCoss.ca Hi everyone, how are you? It is Leah Coss with The Mortgage Center. There is heat in this conception that if you had a foreclosure in the past that you can’t get a mortgage, and I can see why people would be under that impression. You figured, “Jeez! Something happened in my past, I wasn’t able to make my mortgage payments, I even got foreclosed upon, why would anyone want to lend to me based strictly how I look on paper?” But that’s not the case. What happens is, when you get your mortgage, you have a lender. Sometimes you even have a mortgage insurer. Now in a case where you put down more than 20 percent, chances are you’re probably can have a mortgage insurer who strictly, and when I say mortgage insurer, I mean like CMHC or Genworth or Canadian Guaranty. So you are just dealing with the lender. Now, obviously there’s still a lender out there, if RBC gave you a mortgage and you fell short on that mortgage. Something happened, you went into a foreclosure for whatever reason, obviously, RBC is probably not going to want to lend to you again in the next few year, seven years, 10 years for as long as they have you on their files, they’re are going to consider you higher risk, and there is better files out there. Now that seems that you can’t; that RBC is out there emailing all of the lenders saying, flag this person, don’t lend to them. Absolutely not. OK. So if you prefer foreclosure than you will probably go to another lender and get a mortgage from them. Now …

He has already said no. Is there any way that i can find out if he can let me go from his plan even though I am unemployed and uninsured. I cannot get in contact with his chain of command. he lives in one state and I live in another.

I would suggest checking with your lawyer. I do know that some insurance plans will not allow you to do this if you are seperated and some will. I am sure though that through a court of law you can get child support. But, that is determined by the courts.

You did not state when your benefits began. 33 weeks is the National maximum payment period. NY may have additional benefits. Go back to your DOL office and ask!

Of course you can! But the amount of time for your “cure” period varies by state… google it. Some states will even let you pay off a loan AFTER foreclosure (known as a redemption period). Just make sure that instead of blindly sending them payments that you’re working closely with your bank and that you get some sort of forbearance agreement from the bank in the case that you only pay part of your loan off.

How do I get medical bills written off after they have been turned over to a collection agency?
Question by Anne R: How do I get medical bills written off after they have been turned over to a collection agency?
My husband was unemployed and uninsured 4 years ago and had to have emergency surgery. We received a bill from a collection agency a few weeks ago for outstanding medical bills in the amount of $ 16,000. My husband was told at the hospital 4 years ago that since he was unemployed there would be no expense to him. This is the first notice that my husband has received and we have always had a listed phone number and lived at the same address. The hospital says there is nothing that they can do, now that they have turned it over to the collection agency. HELP! any advice?
