Mass. Senate weighs unemployment insurance freeze
BOSTON (AP) — The Massachusetts Senate is weighing a freeze in the state’s unemployment rate to help struggling small businesses. Without the freeze, the average employer would see the per-employee payment jump from $ 644 to $ 872, an increase of $ 228 per worker.

Unemployment falls to 9 percent
Unemployment fell nearly a half percentage point to 9 percent last month, according to the Bureau of Labor Statistics. That’s the lowest unemployment rate in the country since April 2009. The gains were in retail and manufacturing. (Job seekers in a Dallas hotel: AP.)
