I received a part time job offer and took it but then received an even better one, What to do?

Question by R21: I received a part time job offer and took it but then received an even better one, What to do?
I received a part time job offer that sounded great, I took the job which will start in February. However, I was then offered another full time job with more benefits and better pay. Although I need the second job I don’t want to be rude to the employer to which I had already agreed to . Is there any way of retracting on my initial decision without sounding rude, irresponsible, or ungrateful? Or should I just stick to it and let the good job go?

Believe me employers today don’t give a crap about you . Take the better offer and don’t look back.

This situation happens to a lot of people. It is far better to let them know now, so they can restart the hiring process. Don’t delay and thank them for the offer. I wouldn’t say that a formal letter is’nt necessary, but a polite phone call.

They knew you were looking for a job when they offered you the position, so they also knew there was a possibility you were looking at other sources of employment.

    Don’t sweat it.

Take the better offer. Just say you applied that job much earlier but get the offer rather late, and a much better prospect. The employer would be able to understand. He (the manager) would have done the same decision you took. It’s not like you had started and they had spent some investment to train you up, so no big deal. Good luck.

It would be inconsiderate to immediately take the better job when you accepted the first one. But business is business and you should take the best offer available. I would mention that you’ve had another offer and see if they can match pay (or get close enough for you to stay).
