How many months of unemployment should we extend to the unemployed?
Question by Mark: How many months of unemployment should we extend to the unemployed?
How long should someone get unemployment benefits before they just have to accept a lower/unskilled labor position?
With people getting benefits for up to 99 months how long can we sustain that entitlement spending?

NONE. Let the Obots starve. They made their bed, LIE IN IT!
this formula and websites deal with FUTA and SUTA; this post may help you understand how it works. I created part of this for another answer but I’ll edit what should be important for you.
Do the math; $ 350 x 52 weeks= $ 18,200 (before taxes)
Alabama
AL
0.44%
6.04%
2.70%
$ 8000

6.2 percent X $ 7,000 = $ 434 FUTA tax
6.04% X $ 8,000 = $ 483.20 SUTA tax
FUTA with max exemption $ 56.00 + 483.20 = $ 539.20 FUTA/SUTA tax paid per year
$ 539.20 X 30 years = $ 16,176 total contribution which would be under $ 18,200 received.
This is a best case scenario and to be fair you also have to take into account the 33% income tax that is stolen directly.
Few, if any have contributed enough to warrant it.

I did Alabama because it seems like a middle of the road percentage. AK had a 31k cutoff and Mass had a 12.7% max rate. I think it was fair for me to use Alabama?

YOU WILL HAVE TO PLUG IN YOUR OWN STATE CUTOFFS AND PERCENTAGES, I used AL only as an example. The links will give the info you need
I know a few people drawing ,they sit around drinking beer and go fishing while I am busting my butt at work.
As long as you want the economy to keep holding its ground. End unemployment and you will just have another big chunk of Americans unable to buy things, thus closing down more stores and restaurants(not that the unemployed eat at restaurants anymore.)
Apparently you don’t know that there are 5 applicants for every job now, and fewer and fewer unskilled positions available. A new grocery store opened up near us and they filled all their slots on the first day from the 300 applications they already had. Delta announced 1000 positions the other day and got 85,000 applicants!
I don’t believe we can sustain the spending. What is going to happen is that the lower and middle classes will continue to shrink into the now burgeoning poor and we will be living in a 3rd world country.
Unemployment benefits should be for twenty-six weeks. Additional benefits for an extended twenty-six weeks may be available but with the condition that the recipient make repayment once they have returned to work, repayment automatically being deducted from their wages before they even see them (like federal income taxes). After fifty-two weeks there are no more extensions. After fifty-two weeks go out, find an illegal alien, turn him/her into ICE and take their job (at least this is my plan).
with even illegals getting unemployment and working under the table, it wont be an issue cause we are broke.
Unless he goes and prints more money
The question is not so much how long should we extend unemployment but should we extend unemployment at all ? Legally there is no obligation…. when unemployment insurance was purchased the terms of that insurance were known…. once those terms are complete there is no obligation to extend them….
The question then becomes is it good for the nation to artificially extend unemployment…. obviously it is compassionate to extend payments but does it solve the problem or allow that problem to just get worse….. you can not prop up an ailing economy forever….. eventually you will have to stop waiting for that “million dollar” job…..and take that lesser job and reduce your life style…. unemployment insurance “enables” you to stay unemployed…. “hunger” enables you to find work faster ……
I am sorry, but anyone spending 40 hours a week looking for a job is going to get one. The cut off should be 6 months, not 2 years. But the only way to get those lazy butts off the couch and working is to stop coddling them. Touch love. You watch, they will all have a job in a couple of weeks.
