How long after I got laid off can I collect unemployment benefits?

is there a time frame for which they allow these benefits? Can I start collection/registration process after 1 month being laid off?

    Yes, you should be able to. Usually, there is a one to two week processing time, then you can start collecting. The one caveat is if the former employer disputes your eligibility.

    You can start it the next week. You can also (at least in CA) apply online or by phone. Look up your state website and the unemployment benefits info there.

    It depends on your State. My wife didn’t get any benefits for 6 months in my state. And she filed about two weeks after termination.

    You should go to the Unemployment Office as soon as you get the termination letter. The more you wait, the longer you’ll have to wait to collect the benefits.

    You should file right away. There is a one week “waiting period” and then you can file for benefits. So the first check should be less than three weeks. You will get all the info when you go to the unemployment office.
