How do you turn down a job offer when another company has just hired you?
Question by MiM: How do you turn down a job offer when another company has just hired you?
I applied at a department store and a bank at the same time. I was immediately called in for an interview at the store and was hired on the spot but a few days later I was called by the bank and also offered a position with them. I have not yet started working at the store but I want to try working at the bank because it seems like a better opportunity. How can I turn the job down after being hired already but still leave an opening just in case I would like to be hired there again sometime in the future if the bank job doesn’t work out?

Call the HR person at the store and politely let them know that another opportunity has come up and you won’t be able to work with them at this time. Let him/her know that you appreciate everything and that you’d love to work there in the future, if possible.
You’re not doing anything wrong. It happens all of the time. Congrats on the new job!
I think in this case, you just have to decide which job has the best potential for you. It’s probably true that you can’t go back to the store if the bank doesn’t work out; however, I think that you have to take the job that is better for you. Unless the bank and the store are the only two POSSIBLE jobs for you, I’m sure you can find something besides the store if the bank doesn’t work out. Needless to say, it’s good to have an optimistic attitude about WHICHEVER job you choose.
I’ve worked for a number of banks, and a couple of stores; I’d go with the bank any day!
It’s a bad idea simply to fail to show up, so it would be polite to call the person who hired you for the store and tell them directly but politely that you have “decided to accept another position,” and to thank them for the offer.
Happy new job!
Do what your Heart says
And please do the best
If you interested in Bank Job, go ahead in banking
Leave negative thoughts if it doesn’t work, if really it
then you have a lot other more and you can find too
Well you have so many polite reasons to tell the store
and the one best things you can do is arrange someone else to the store if you know who are looking for the job
That’s the best that you can do to store and to your choice
if need further assistance you are welcome to to ask

Could you work part-time for the store and also for the bank? This would be to your benefit, you are going to need nice clothes for the bank position, and working for the store could help you obtain the nice clothes you will need. You will also have two incomes. Best Wishes!
