U.S. Jobless Claims Unexpectedly Climb to Five-Month High

Initial jobless claims rose by 2,000 to 484,000 in the week ended Aug. 7, the highest level since mid February, Labor Department figures showed today in Washington. The number of people receiving unemployment benefits dropped, while those getting supplemental benefits surged by 1.34 million reflecting the government’s extension of eligibility.

Will we have to endure yet another propaganda speech by Obama or Biden on their FALSE claims of their “saved or created millions of jobs” LIE???

LOL! He has been saying that more people are entering the market again and that is why the number is going up.

Of course when the number was steady and people pointed out that there were many who just dropped out of the market and were not included in the number, he completely rejected that whole phenomenon outright. LOL!

Because that is just another slogan like so many that those running things in washington love so much. It is a complete lie but a great slogan..

More flowery speeches without any substance.

The left (and many in the center) were stupid enough to buy it then and elect him, so why would he think that they wouldn’t buy into it now?

  • Shaman:

Because he is a delusional, out of touch president who was pushing an advertising campaign aimed at “selling” the Dems brand before November.

  • Sageandscholar:

Due to the loss of approximately 400,000 temporary census jobs (I thought everybody knew that – why don’t you pay attention?)
Doesn’t change the facts. 4 consecutive quarters of positive economic growth, four consecutive quarters of strong increases in gross private domestic investment, 700,000 new private sector jobs so far this year.

You guys can keep working against America by trying to erode the recovery with your lies but it won’t work. Consumer Confidence and the Hiring Index are both way up since the beginning of 2009.

I seem to remember a stimulus package that was going to keep unemployment under 8%. Perhaps it came out of th same ball of BS?

The “real” unemployment percentage in January stood at 17.4%. Since, it has risen to as high as 19.2% and dropped as low as 18.1%. It has never dropped below the 18.1% since it rose in February, it has stayed at that level with minor adjustments up and back down. It is now at 18.2%. There has been what they tout as a jobless recovery, but without jobs will be at best a temporary gain. Until jobs are created the recovery will not be long lived. People without jobs do not spend, no spending no recovery.

The 484,000 is about 85,000 jobs higher than economists had hoped, although jobs have been created at a low pace in the private sector. Some of these jobless claims are reported to be the laid-off Census workers who have now filed claims for unemployment (according to AP on Yahoo’s news page). Since there are more than 300,000,000 people in the United States, one would be fairly tempted to believe that claims of saving and/or creating millions of jobs is, in fact, TRUE. An example would be Michigan: Check out the new technologies being brought to the state (Wixom, MI in particular at the former Ford Motor plant—three new companies for solar-powered and wind-powered MANUFACTURING jobs), and also note that Chrysler has decided to move its 800# Customer Service operations back to the United States, in Michigan and also in Salt Lake City, Utah—they are HIRING. In 40 of our 50 states, the President’s green-energies technologies initiative is working—there are projects and plants up and running, including the hybrid car factory in PA. We have our military troops being brought quietly home from Iraq over the past several months (the Army’s 2nd battalion just last week landed in NJ), and these people will be attempting to return to work, perhaps displacing those who had filled their jobs during deployment in Iraq. Be PATIENT, and HAVE FAITH. The second half of the President’s stimulus is due out on October 1st (the start of the second fiscal year he’s been in office), so there will be a jumpstart soon. NOT LIES!~ NOT FALSE CLAIMS!
