depends what you want to have done and who you’re hiring. you need to find who in your area does what.
if you just leave someone to fix up your car, someone who can do everything is expensive, or he’ll contract the work out to other people who are pros at what they do, and take a comission off the top
if you want a deal just start doing it yourself. sand it all down in your garage, then hire a welder to come over and patch some metal. then you can roll it down to the paint shop.
Except for the engine and accessories to the engine, I would guess it isn’t any different than restoration of any other car! Bodywork, and uphlolstry is about the same as any other car!And all other components are more or less the same. Probably the biggest expense is going to be the parts themselves,- (as some people think you “want” to pay more just ot have a “muscle car”!) So check around and see what other people you bump into, -( that had their car work done), -and you will have a pretty good idea what it is going to “run”!
It appears that it is going to cost me about the same to do my Dodge Charger, – as it did to do my 22 Model “T”! Of course I do practically everything except the paintwork,( I don’t do good paint”!
All I can say is you get what you pay for. Do your research very carefully there are many people out there that are not capable of doing the job right! It all depends on the car and the quality of job you want.
Dont go cheap, you get what you pay for. I just finished restoring a 65 Pontiac GTO 421 tripower. I started on it when I was 18, and now I am 26 and just finished it. I was very particular about everything that went into it, and I have about $35,000 invested into it.
most of the time its flat rated, 1 price for whatever needs to be done.
The national shop average rate is $60 per hour, as of 10-01-06.
This is per technician.
