Does anyone else feel like this? What do you do to cope?

Question by cootybean: Does anyone else feel like this? What do you do to cope?
I’m having troubles coping with stress in my life. In fact, I always have. I have bi-polar depression. I have trouble maintaining jobs. I have phases (months) that go by and I’m pretty functional, even successful at work. Then, almost suddenly, I start dreading going in to work, I call in sick, and I feel miserable. I’m depressed and suffer from anxiety attacks also. I actually break down crying before going in to work sometimes, just because I am so frustrated with how I feel each day. I really don’t know what to do. I can’t afford to be unemployed. I have filed for disability. It was denied originally. I contacted a lawyer who gets paid if I win…and now am still waiting for a hearing date…almost a year later. It’s been a struggle to stay ‘above water’. I was uninsured up to the beginning of this month…but finding time and money for co-pays to seek therapy isn’t easy either. Ugh…help?

My husband is bipolar, too, and has been through many jobs. He is now quite stabilized, thanks to good doctors and medicine. If you have insurance again, find a doc to work with you to get your medications in good order. It may take some adjustments. His are adjusted every so often and may be “tweaked” forever.

You are entitled to good care, so hang in there! Also, if you need to be on disability, it may take a number of tries, but you will probably get it eventually. My husband did not want it, but rather wanted to work his way to being well enough not to need it, and he has worked HARD to achieve that. Luckily he could.

But the answer for one is not the answer for all.

Do you know about NAMI, the National Association for the Mentally Ill? They have very good programs that will help you with support, and if you have family members, they will also provide free education so that you can get more support and understanding.

I wish you the best in all this. Please know that there are many many people like me who care for you, even if we don’t know you personally. Write back about how you are doing.

i have bipolar too, im on disability but it took my mom three years to get it. i go through those phases of being ok then just cant deal with anything or anyone, ill tell ya it aint easy and theres no magic pill either. but if you have people around you that are willing to deal with your swings and love you it makes it a little easier to deal with. good luck
