Do the jobless deserve to be ignored by Democrats and Republicans because they don’t protest?
Question by Nancy Pelosi 2016: Do the jobless deserve to be ignored by Democrats and Republicans because they don’t protest?
Hey, if they’re going to silently suffer in some motel room out in the middle of nowhere, rather than make tents in front of politicians’ offices, why should the pols even care about them anyway?
It’s only a matter of time before 9% unemployment just becomes ‘the new normal’, and they end up a faceless and forgotten minority anyway!

The jobless should all be staffed in the military and those that are not should be sent to work camps. Under my leadership we would have 0% unemployment just like North Korea.

How is unemployment any business of the federal government?
To think politicians even understand the fundamental problems and know the solutions is a waste of time on our part.
Politicians are clueless as to why America is declining.
They just keep spouting off rhetoric and making empty promises to keep the people complacent and ensure their own re-election because they don’t want to lose their jobs either.
The nation suffers along with them since they pay no taxes. The more jobless there are the worse off the nation is. It is in any nation’s best interest to have full employment. This is a given. Protesting is nearly a complete waste of time any way. You can hold elections or have violent revolutions. Holding up card board signs does nothing
…”Nancy”…you really need to stay in San Fran’sicko’ with the rest of the Liberal-Progressive, diaper wetting DOPE smokers !
I don’t believe the Democrats are purposely ignoring these people. That would not be very smart. And i believe they are smart People…There are just some little old ladies lying down in the road so Obama’s bulldozer cant get by…Little old ladies being the Republican congress obstructionist.
You’re right, the new normal may henceforth contain a high unemployment rate.
We’re part of the world economy and many new normals will be part of that picture.
What hasn’t changed is the ability of “free market” capitalism to change with the times
and produce private sector jobs.
We have come to a fork in the road:
Capitalism with the real possibility of increasing economic growth,
(perhaps more slowly than we would wish).
Or Nanny State/socialism which would sooner or later lead us into a Grecian environment.
Ronald Reagan inherited just as bad and economy from Carter that Obama did from Bush.
At this point in Reagan’s presidency we had 8% growth.
Conservatives are not conservatives because they are greedy and hate the poor.
We think that free enterprise and a smaller government creates more wealth and opportunities for everyone, including the poor.
It has me very bewildered there was a bill passed by the Senate just before they all went on holidays. I’m not sure you guys in the states are aware of it. Ron Paul was trying to have it thrown out, but like with many bills that are being passed there ignored until they personally effect you guys, this passed bill is very bad for you guys in the US.
The President now has the power to arrest you as terrorists if you go out and protest towards him or the government, http://youtu.be/sO_wN15OjLI This may be the job bill for September, getting drafted into the US military.
Most protests are made up of the unemployed. The employed people are at work so they can support themselves. College kids on their parents’ dime and welfare queens on food stamps have the time to protest. The rest of us don’t have time to go out and make a spectacle of ourselves. You wouldn’t know anything about that.
The government is NOT their mommy. The Republicans are at least attempting to decrease government spending so that PRIVATE enterprise can create jobs. I lived through the recession of ’82 which was worse than this. It wasn’t fun but it made me prepare for the next one.
What do you propose?
There is only so much abuse people are going to take before they reach a critical mass and revolt.
Congress can go ahead and squabble between the Republicans and the Democrats and continue to get nothing done, or set tax and social policy in favor of corporations and the very wealthy (including wealthy Senators and members of Congress) but at some point the unemployed, the working poor and the middle class who are living paycheck to paycheck are simply not going to take it anymore and we may well be looking at a second civil war or quite possibly a revolution.
It happened in France in 1789, throughout Europe in 1848 and in Russia in 1917 — granted, with different results in these revolutions; but in each case the poor, the working class and the middle class finally got sick of being oppressed by the oligarchs and the plutocrats and revolted.
