Defense Cuts Don’t Have to Mean Cuts to Veterans Benefits

Last night’s CNN debate was essentially devoid of any foreign policy. But when the issue of veteran unemployment came up, some of the candidates took their time to criticize President Obama for upcoming defense cuts, and said he’s doing it all on the back of those who served. It is true that veteran’s benefits are one of the areas to be hit on the chopping block. But it doesn’t have to be that way. Homeless Veterans Initiative’s Geoff Millard discusses.

Geoff, Obama still send people to fight (when he said he wouldn’t before), so it really doesn’t matter whether he gives veterans more benefits or not. Many of the problems they currently face ARE because we are still fighting these unnecessary wars (for we the people, that is). Ron Paul’s ideas on how to fix the situation at first might have some issues at first, but that is because he’s throwing something new (and more reliable in the long run) in place. Think of it as starting from scratch.

repubs don’t give a damn about the military except to parade them around. remember when dems were trying to pass a new GI bill to get vets a college degree? who fought it the whole way saying”if we offer them college they won’t re-enlist?” thank you jim webb and the other dems who got that passed. remember when Walter reed was a national embarrassment and then sen Clinton and the dems got it fixed?
