Republicans will never admit that! They will deny, subvert and spin. That’s all they seem to be good at these days.

A fart does not necessarily mean a bowel movement.

  • Scott K:

I’m a democrat and I’m not ready. The economy is on very shaky ground and will be until there are actually some kind of jobs increase.

  • Brutus:

You don’t understand what role prices play in those numbers. Yes, spending does increase when prices increase. Imagine that.

  • David:

Yeah if you waste all your money and give it to others they will spend it.
    That’s what we did.
We still didn’t recoup all that we lost in the bailout.
If we took government money out of the economy, the economy grew by like .01%, that’s not a lot.

  • Lag Indicator:

Consumer spending always goes up in the holiday season. I also think the CBS sponsors want to see more people in the holiday spending mood.

  • Dan Z:

Really? Consumer spending went up before Christmas? Who would have thought that could happen?

  • andy g:

It’s Christmas einstien!!!!!! Nice try but 0bama fiddles with numbers all the time!!!! Oh and cbs is an 0bama lapdog!!!

  • Thank you Blue Dogs:

its freaking Dec 11 a raise in consumer spending does not surprise me nor does it mean we can keep it up

  • stygianwolfe:

Yeah and the economy is on the rise! (NOT!)
All I can say is one word………”gullible”.

  • Big Daddy:

I’m a republican and I’m willing to admit that the President;s policies are fixing the economy. I’m lucky enough to have survived lay-offs and hope the unemployed get jobs soon as more employment should really get things moving.

  • susisays:

*Consumer spending* ALWAYS goes up at this time of the year!

  • shootsmyownfood:

LOL!! It’s the holiday season! You win the Cpt. Lame-o award! You guys are really getting desperate.

  • dwoodall:

You do realize its the Christmas season, right?

Watch it plummet in Q1 2010, just like it does in every Q1, after rising in every Q4.

Good God….you democrats are economic geniuses, huh?

  • Steve M:

Like depending on a blade of grass to pull you out of quick sand.

Grasping at anything at all in the hope of making the first year failure of the Obama administration into a success.

  • Ron L:

If I break your window and you have to go into debt to get a new one, consumer spending goes up. But that does not mean real wealth has increased.

  • On the Right Side:

I don’t think so. By the way how is that whole hopey changey thing going for ya?

  • YooperInVegas:

Wow, people went out and spent gobs of money Christmas shopping the day after Thanksgiving this year. That’s never happened before in the history of this country, so it has to be because of the policies of the great Barack Hussein Obama. Yep, Republicans were wrong once again, and this proves it.

  • hdean45:

Could the fact that Sarah Palins book is selling like hot cakes be what brought the consumer spending up.

  • MI:

Is it up equal to higher than last year or the year before? Spending always goes up at this time of year the question is how much did it go up.

  • swatmaster68:

Praise Obama for giving America this time of the year called Christmas. Thanks to Obama people are starting to buy gifts for one another…people are also buying trees and decorative lights for some reason. Hopefully the all wise President Obama will give us a day in Spring to buy baskets, fake grass, eggs and different colors to dye those eggs. And if he is really generous he will provide America with a day, preferably in summer, where we can buy fireworks, eat hotdogs, and celebrate ths founding of this country. Obviously spending is up because it is nearly Christmas..but Democrats wouldn’t know anything about that because the day involves religion and capitalism, two things the Democrats know nothing about.

  • Oscar:

Are the figures anything like the job saving and creation figures from districts and places that don’t exist. Of course the jobs didn’t exist either so I guess that worked out.
