it isn’t just because of this economy, this can happen for the bottom line at anytime. It can happen because they don’t like you. But, most companies, union or not will fight the unemployment regardless of whether or not you’ve been a loyal employee. They have to fight the unemployment because their unemployment insurance rate will go up, It’s just business. It’s the way business must be done to stay competitive.

if you were white redneck you will make better sense. but since you look like a mexican filipino…dude shut tha fuck up ..quit collecting unemployment…bitch

  • bluejay02920:

I wonder if this would happen if the person took time off to have a baby?

  • chiyerano:

@westin1985 No, you don’t qualify for unemployment benefits if you are fired or if you quit. The only way to qualify is if you have lost your job through no fault of your own and that you were laid off from a company you were employed with.

  • chiyerano:

    That’s terrible.

  • veritasfiles:

@DIJV79 Actually a lot of retirees aren’t at fault either, and they are under no obligation to retire just so someone else can work. A lot of the people suffering in the recession are actually younger people who bought massive homes while making only $35,000 to $50,000 a year. Seniors and older folks got hurt, not from buying what they couldn’t afford, but because their retirement savings simply evaporated right before they were ready to retire.

  • DIJV79:

@veritasfiles Yes retirees they need to leave so the younger generation can take over, its not are fault the got into faulty mortgages and all other kinds of liabilities.

  • DIJV79:

Bereavement leave is not 3 months long.

I now live in South Florida and businesses are closing in such numbers that the city council is trying to stop people from putting ads over the doors because it “looks bad”, not mentioning the economy itself in there. All the folks I talk to regularly are mostly still on unemployment, which they can’t leave because few businesses around here will pay more than $9.00 dollars an hour.

Corporations are fictions, Money is their God.

  • veritasfiles:

We’re getting the same where I am. I work for a quasi-government agency, and they are really shaking the trees and trying to get people to leave. They are doing this because they realize that they are going to have to start laying people off in the next few years. They’d like the number that they have to let go to be as small as possible, so in the meantime they intend to make things as inhospitable as possible to those who’ve been there for years.

@edmack4me, you are right but companies should act with some honor. we are not a feudalistic society where everyone on the low end is expendable….

  • TechnoNubian:

FMLA (Family Medical Leave Act) is a complete piece of shit legislation. There are so many people that have been fired over this law and this practice was going on well before the current economic crisis. HR managers should be held legally accountable for this shady practice as they generally have to authorize the leave in the first place. It is quite hypocritical that they then seek termination after the fact.

True story. I was with my previous employer for 30 years and the day after my 30th anniversary, I got called into HR and was told my job had been eliminated!

  • turboman8082:

anyone who gets in bed with a company and expects then to treat you right is a fool. Truth is if you only have one source of income you are at risk and could lose everything.

  • gwuengr2:

    @jnnycliff Your are obviously clueless…

  • gwuengr2:

Why am I not surprised by this….

  • davidlanham99:

You don’t quit your job for 3 months because your mother’s dying, especially if you have kids.

  • koolbossjock:

@johnu78 Not yet,but its easy to figure out what to do to solve it.You try to do everything with in the law and reason and you just keep getting FCKD and FCKD over and over.At some point you realize you need to KILL all of these PIGS to stop this.I look forward to watching them with that Oh Sht look on their faces when it all comes down and they are thinking,,Can i buy my way out of this to? NO PIG you Cannot.

  • josda1000:

Corporations are in bed with the government for the very fact that they are CREATED by the government. This kind of thing would never happen in an anarchy, because there would be no handouts to get, all liability would lie with the shareholders/single owner of the company. Limited liability is a creation of the government itself.

  • mikehawk1965:

and people wonder why i’m leaving, lolol

  • matschbirne111:

Same story in Germany. You get fired and then re-hired for a lower wage. The best about this: you don’t even have to leave work for a single day during that process.
