@KungFuChess That being said, the money would be best spent in creating jobs, rather than continuing the falsehood that we are in a recovery. This would not be a “stimulus” as Nancy Pelosi has misguidedly stated. I wish people would wake up to the racial divide, along with the class warfare that is being perpetrated by the politicians. You might as well extend unemployment 2 more years, as no on is going to hire until BHO is out of the White House. He IS the reason there are no jobs!!
@ladylordess It takes hard work I agree, but unless you’ve had the misfortune to have been laid off in this crappy economy, you’ll never understand the struggles many go through to find even the lousy Mcdonalds jobs. There’s a reason nearly 10% of the US is out of work! I dont know many people that enjoy being on unemployment. And I know a few, but that check can maybe buy someone more time to feed their family, or make the rent, or transport themselves to an interview etc..
Businesses large & small do not trust Democrats, and they are hoarding 2 trillion in cash, by there own admission because of the anti-business policies and uncertain future about higher taxes in 2011. We will have unemployment at 9.5% for a long time, because Democrats couldn’t run a successful bingo game much less the US economy. Where are the jobs that Obama promised with the stimulus bill? He has been wrong on every decision on the economy.

They are making it HERE in the great US, maybe not to your high standards, or a TV in every room and air conditioning, however they will be the stronger for it, and you the weaker. My point is too live on the amount they give you for UI isn’t enough to live on, but it is better to earn it than to have UI for up to 2 years and NOT working.

I thought Biden said the stimulus was working. Isn’t the White House on the ‘Summer Stimulus Tour’? The White House doesn’t care about jobs. Just look at how they rushed to end off shore drilling in the Gulf. Less than half a million jobs in the private sector per year. We all can’t work for the government or the White House. The staff of which is now paid $38 million dollars per year. And there’s just so many Czarships available. Just keep printing that garbge money

Why NOT work at McDonalds? There are immigrants in this country who manage, work sun up to sun down, and yet many scoff at the suggestion of McDonalds? You’d rather collect UI, which is the same wage, only at Mickey Ds you have to show up and work! What is wrong with that??? I expect others to be inspired to create a company, say in the service area and start their own company! It is alot of work, but more rewarding than collecting unemployment and better than bitching about those at the top.

@RHODOAN Do yourself a favor look up Federal aid to State programs and corporate welfare programs. Also look up waste and abuse of medicare/medicaid and SCHIP. Then look up waste at the commerce department. Look up salaries of the more the 1 million government employees not including military or the post office. Look up economic studies at heritage, cato and bookings. All the budgets and where your money goes can be found at the library of Congress.
@RHODOAN You obviously have never looked at the federal budget. The waste is immense. And FYI Greed of those to big to fail business is much intertwined with government regulation and politicians. Government regulation caused the housing crisis, fed monetary policy caused the financial meltdown. Bush failed by not allowing Fannie and Freddie to be dissolved and now Obama has given them unlimited funds of your money and their CEOs over $42 million in bonuses to practice the same BAD business.
The dems just want to pass it and go further into debt. The republicans WANT to pass it, but pay for it with tarp funds. Perhaps they should just go halvies and pay for half of it with tarp funds. This president didn’t discuss any of that. If I was pres, I would’ve suggested a compromise.

@quizerry Unfortunately, no one can be trusted to do the right thing. Trusting big business to regulate itself leaves out the fact of GREED, which seems to rule so many people. Gov. has to step in because of this simple factor. Unemployment compensation is a miniscule part of the entire budget. There always seems to be plenty of money for pointless and unending WARS, but not ever enough for the PEOPLE who need help, or for education or healthcare.
Why is it that only “middle” class people are championed as the group most deserving of tax relief and welfare benefits? How come “small” business is promoted as having needs by our government? When our government stops treating the public in a neutral fashion and favors one group over another it creates class warfare among us. Americans have never settled for just being middle class, and no small business wants to remain small. Policies like this cap individuals success and are unAmerican.
Obama is serious, and I really like him, but we have a more serious problem that unemployment checks. If we don’t stop spending, the United States is going to go down. Everyone will suffer, working or not. Anarchy. The Republicans and Democrats I hate them both: Bipartisan is perfection. Eliminate tax cuts for the rich, and STOP government spending before it’s too late.
I have an Idea how about cutting all corporate welfare giving corporation subsidies to do what they already do develop and market products. How about cutting subsidies to huge farms? How about cutting Government salaries by 10% and Congress and Senate salaries by 25%. How about abolishing HUD who cost taxpayers billions in fraud and abuse and does little to improve housing for the poor. How about cutting the billions in waste from medicare/medicaid. Then extend unemployment
Unemployment benefit should only be extended if Congress cuts spending elsewhere to cover the cost. To extend it pay taking more taxpayer dollars and putting us deeper in debt only hurts all of us and slows the economy more. The Government needs to get out of the way and let the economy correct itself. Everything they have done has extended the recession and put us deeper in debt. This administrations policies will cause all to have lower standards of living.
