Question by My BFF is a Pitador!: Unemployment compensation question?
I have recently read that in addition to the 6 months of typical unemployment, that there is also an additional 13 weeks of compensation available to those already collecting. How is it determined who is eligible for the additional 13 weeks and how would a person collecting unemployment be advised that they are eligible for this extension.
PS as long as I get a good, knowledgable answer, I will pick best answer. If you are desperate for a “best answer” status, check out my last questions and answer them. The people that answered me are idiots so I refuse to choose them as best answer.

president Bush signed a 13 week unemployment extension in june. in order to qualify for it, you must have exhausted ( used up) your regular 26 week claim inside of these dates : (July 6, 2008 – march 29, 09 ). so as long as your unemployment is all used up and then you fall inside those dates, you may get the additional 13 weeks. each state has a different way of processing it. you will get notified either way if you qaulify.
there is a 2nd extension in the works right now but it is not decided yet. not everyone will get it. the people that will get that one are those who have used up the 13 weeks extension i just spoke of above but… again, there will be certain timeframes to qualify. its all a matter of timing of when you got your unemployment.
