Question on my TX unemployment benefits?

Question by z: Question on my TX unemployment benefits?
i just figured based on my benefit amount that it will be exhausted at my 6th month. What happens if i don’t find a job by then? I’ve heard a lot of alk about some type of extension.

Best answer:

Answer by Bash Limpbutt’s Oozing Cyst©
Basic unemployment benefits are payable for 26 weeks (6 months) only. There are currently 2 Federally funded extensions, one for 13 weeks and one for up to 20 additional weeks beyond that. Those are scheduled to expire in December, 2009 however it’s likely that Congress will extend one or both of those at least for folks who are currently receiving unemployment benefits at that time.

Focus your immediate efforts on finding a job, not on what may or may not happen with unemployment benefits in the future. Employment counselors recommend you spend as many hours per week looking for work as you would spend on the job if you were working. Although the TWC may require you to make a few employer contacts every week, half a dozen job applications is seldom enough effort to find work in a down economy. When I became unemployed last year I put in about 60 hours per week actively looking for work. I was back at work in March after about 4 months on unemployment, just as the economy was bottoming out.

Good luck in your search!
