Background Check Services in the US Industry Market Research Report Now Available from IBISWorld

Los Angeles, CA (PRWEB) February 28, 2013

In the five years to 2013, IBISWorld estimates that revenue for the Background Check Services industry will decrease at an average rate of 0.2% per year to $ 3.7 billion. The decline is largely the result poor performance during the recession, with revenue falling 7.6% and 2.6% in 2009 and 2010, respectively. According to IBISWorld industry analyst Kevin Culbert, Rising unemployment reduced the need for businesses to screen for job candidates while an increase in rental vacancy rates diminished demand from apartment leasing companies. Luckily for industry operators, slow improvement in the labor market and a decline in rental vacancy rates have since boosted demand for background check services. As a result, IBISWorld estimates that industry revenue will increase 3.3% in 2013.

Over the past decade, the internet has been the primary driver for the industry’s growth. Traditionally, background check services were largely manual, says Culbert. However, the internet has streamlined and automated many of the processes performed by hand. This factor caused a significant number of firms to enter the industry during the past decade. However, this market saturation, coupled with the fall in demand from the recession, caused industry profit to decline, prompting a period of consolidation within the industry. IBISWorld estimates that the number of firms operating in the industry will decline at an annualized rate of 0.1% to 3,635 in the five years to 2013.

In 2013, the four largest firms are expected to account for about 10.0% of the Background Check Services industry’s revenue, indicating a low level of market share concentration. Historically, industry operators required considerable expertise to conduct investigations and detailed background checks. However, the growth of online technology over the past decade has provided an opportunity for firms to enter this industry. According to the National Association of Professional Background Screeners, most industry operators are small firms focused on aggregating public records. Less than 2.0% of industry firms are large background screening providers that operate at a national or international level. Over the past five years, market share concentration has marginally increased due to some consolidation among leading industry firms. For instance, Sterling Infosystems’ 2011 acquisition of Axciom’s background screening business doubled the market share of one of the larger firms in this industry.

IBISWorld expects that industry revenue will increase in the five years to 2018. During that time, industry operators will benefit from slow but steady improvement in the labor market. Businesses will turn to industry operators as they hire more employees. This factor will be bolstered by an increasing number of cities and counties that have enacted laws banning companies from asking applicants whether or not they have been convicted of a crime. However, strong growth will be mitigated by an increase in vacancy rates, which will diminish demand from apartment leasing companies.

Love Living Longer Nationwide Book and Lecture Tour Set for Summer 2013 from Authors of Caregivers Guide Hope I Dont Die Before I Get Old

Whitefield, NH (PRWEB) February 27, 2013

Like many women, Mary Boone Wellington and Tracey Bowman , authors of the new book”Hope I Don’t Die Before I Get Old” have spent collective decades caring for their aging parents, friends and their children. By interviewing experts and people from all walks of life who have achieved a healthy, happy old age, they have determined a few universal principles that make for an active and satisfying retirement.

This summer, the authors will set off on a nationwide tour to spread the word about laying good foundations for the future. The Love Living Longer tour will stop in 37 cities and include book signings, talks, seminars and workshops. Topics include:

Coffee, Chocolate and WineHealthy Indulgence for Longer Lives
Build a Sharper Brain-Middle Age Muddle Explained and Remedied
Five Common Care-giving Dilemmas and How to Solve Them
Money and Chocolate+Five Other Essentials for a Long & Happy Life

In talks about planning for the future Wellington and Bowman reveal some surprising facts. Thirty-six percent of all working people save nothing for their retirement. Forty percent of Baby Boomers plan to work until they drop and refuse to consider what will happen if their cash runs out before their life is over. One in four people over 65 have saved only $ 25,000 towards their retirement.

Their years in the trenches of care-giving left them determined to make the path a little easier for those who followed and to create a plan for their own old age that included a good hard look at financial reality. They discovered that it is not that difficult or terribly expensive to make sound financial decisions now that will ensure a happy old age. Hope I Dont Die Before I Get Old, their new book on successful aging, covers some options and ideas, giving hope to perpetual procrastinators.

Anyone can begin today to lay a foundation of financial abundance, even if they are unemployed, down on their luck, in debt or spending every nickel they make on their current lifestyle, says Mary Boone Wellington. The secret is to have a plan-denial is not a plan. Lifespans are increasing and one in two of us will be needing extra help as we live into extreme old age.” Hope I Dont Die Before I Get Old details how to begin to plan for a longer life. One new product worth looking into is the newly revamped Long Term Care Annuity. This policy is a hybrid of Whole Life Insurance and a Long Term Care policy. Some advantages are:

The investment pays a death benefit to heirs
Long term care needs are covered at many times your investment
There may be less stringent health conditions for getting the policy
An annuitant may have more choices of care; i.e. home health care, assisted living or nursing home of their choice.
The policy may be purchased at an older age without the price becoming exorbitant
An annuity or similar products can buy time to allow the redistribution of assets

An independent insurance agent can design an annuity with features tailored to the health, financial state and desires of the applicant. This policy may require a cash investment up front, but returns are guaranteed and will be disbursed to pay for care or to heirs should any or all of the cash value of the policy which is typically two to four times the purchase price, remain after the policy holders death. Consumers should weigh the cost and benefits against a variety of policies and consult a certified financial planner or certified long term care specialist about how a LTC Annuity might fit into estate and care planning for them.

He attributed the limited knowledge about the power of mushrooms to their fleeting nature, which provides scientists little time to study them. Additionally, he mused that the varied effects of mushrooms, such as improved health, sustenance, and death, contribute to a sense of fear because “they are so poorly understood.” However, he marveled that there are over 5 million species of fungi on the planet, constituting more than half of the 10 million total species, of all organisms, on Earth. For more on Stamets’ research, see this video. Stamets shared numerous instances where the ability of fungi to survive and thrive in extreme environments has provided insights into potential ways that they could improve life on Earth. What happens if my green card expires this month and I am receiving unemployment insurance?

Question by Jose: What happens if my green card expires this month and I am receiving unemployment insurance?
My green card expires this month and I am receiving unemployment insurance. I don’t want to renovate it because I would like to apply for US citizenship. Because if I am going to pay more or less $ 500 might as well go towards becoming part of this country, I have been here since 1977 might as well, otherwise in another ten years I would be making another payment of $ 500 again. How would this affect me receiving those unemployment checks if I let it expire.

Best answer:

Answer by KL
If you haven’t already applied for US Citizenship you will need to renew your green card. If you applied for citizenship and your green card was going to expire 6 months from now then you will not need to renew it. As for your unemployment, you will need to check with the unemployment office. If you do not renew your green card or haven’t yet applied for US citizenship then you have no legal status in the USA and therefore you are not entitled to receive unemployment benefits.

Top Echelon Contracting: Demand for Business Professionals Contractors Spiked in 2012

CANTON, Ohio (PRWEB) January 25, 2013

Theres no question that the most recent recession and the ensuing recovery have changed the employment landscape. This is especially evident in the increased use of contractors in the Business Professionals and Support Staff sector, according 2012 placement statistics recently released by contract staffing back-office service Top Echelon Contracting (TEC).

TEC has recorded a 9% increase nationwide in contract placements in that sector. In 2012, 25% of the placements fell into the Business Professionals and Support Staff classification last year compared to 16% in 2011.

TEC President Fledderjohann is not surprised by the numbers. She notes that employment experts have been pointing to the professional sector as a major driver in the economic recovery for awhile now.

It has often been noted that while the overall unemployment rate remains high, the rate for degreed, white collar professionals has been under 4%, Fledderjohann said.

The fact that a number of employers are turning to contractors to fill their Business Professionals and Support Staff positions illustrates another turning point in the American workforce, Fledderjohann said. Many of these employers are maintaining a small core of direct hire employees surrounded by a larger outer ring of contractors. Contractors are being used at all levels, all the way up to the C-Suite in a trend known as executive temping, Fledderjohann said.

We have seen a major shift in the attitudes of both employers and workers when it comes to contract staffing, she said. It is obvious from these statistics that contract staffing is becoming a viable alternative to traditional employment in all aspects of white collar professions.

Based in Canton, Ohio, Top Echelon Contracting, Inc. (TEC), the recruiters back-office solution, helps recruiters offer contract staffing to clients and candidates. As a contract staffing service provider since 1992, TEC becomes the employer and handles all of the contractor paperwork, legal contracts, timesheet collection, payroll processing and funding, tax withholding, benefits, Workers Compensation, invoicing, collection of accounts receivables, background checks, etc. TEC does business in 49 states and specializes in technical, professional, and healthcare contract placements.

California unemployment benefit claim: is it harmful to report to EDD my severance pay offered at lay off?

Question by Tim Tim: California unemployment benefit claim: is it harmful to report to EDD my severance pay offered at lay off?
The unemployment benefit claim says I have to report to EDD the severance pay amount. Why do they want to know this? Would reporting the severance pay to EDD negatively affect my benefit calculation?

Thank you.

Best answer:

Answer by A Hunch
Several reasons:
1. they need to confirm that you are really had a reduced income = if you continued to get paid just like always for the next X months, you would not start unemployment until after that date
– per your earlier question on why you can’t apply now
2. they need to confirm that the serverance amount is not included in your wage calculation. That is the reason that the date range is included. They want to make sure that your severance does not falsely inflate your earnings.
~ since your severance is paid in a lump sum and won’t be included in the reporting period, it does nothing to your claim.
