Usually the employers verify the work history before or after giving a job offer? Is this a must process?

Question by Maigo: Usually the employers verify the work history before or after giving a job offer? Is this a must process?
it is a really big company. I already got a verbal job offer from them, does it mean they already checked my employers history? Now they ask for back check, usually backcheck refers to criminal check, but i dont know if employment history check is also part of the back check? Also, usually verifying the past work history is a must? Or they only check it when they feel suspicious?

I try to make sure that if they call the manager at my current job…that they at least wait until after they’ve given me a documented job offer and are ready to hire me with a set rate and everything. That way, I know they are serious. I’ve been “hired” before…didn’t get the job, and my manager was mad that she got a call from someone for a reference…for another job. So she knew I was leaving her and I didn’t have a leg to stand on so to speak, because the new job fell through. Don’t let them call “just to check.”

I accepted a job offer, relocated, and the employer could not pay my salary, what can I sue for?

Question by djafaricom: I accepted a job offer, relocated, and the employer could not pay my salary, what can I sue for?
I accepted a job offer in the middle of a project in Washington DC with a large consulting company. I relocated to Alabama and two weeks later the employer let the entire staff go because he could not pay our salaries. Myself and two friends lost jobs we could not go back to, moved, and lost everything. We damaged our reputations by moving in the middle of projects that will prevent us from getting any future work with our previous employers. What kind of damages can we seek?

What to do when 30 years old single and unemployed?

Question by Jack Fazio: What to do when 30 years old single and unemployed?
What would you recommend for a 30 year old male who is unemployed, single, and has no college degree? I am tired of going to interviews where I am competing with fifty guys with graduate degrees all scrambling for a minimum wage loser job. Do I join the military? Go postal? Walk the earth like Kane from ‘Kung Fu’ ? At this point I am open to any suggestions, no matter how outlandish.
